Right after breakfast we set out for Bautzen. We had been about an hour on the bus when we arrived the memorial site Bautzen II. A young woman guided us through the complex.
First, we looked at “normal” jail cells where the prisoners lived. Our guide told us among other things about an attempted escape. After that, we visited the detention cells and listened to a statement of a former prisoner who spent 51 days there. Some of us had already been to Bautzen during previous seminars; however, what we saw next was new to all of us: the courtyard.
Over all, everyone enjoyed the tour. It was not only interesting to hear personal stories of prisoners, but it also made it possible to emphasize with them.
At noon we went on to the center of Bautzen where we had some free time. Some went shopping, some for a stroll and some just enjoyed the warm weather.
Tonight there is going to be a retrospection of 20 years St. Marienthal seminars.
